Thirteen members of UT Southwestern’s Department of Neurological Surgerywere honored with inclusion in D Magazine’s Best Doctors list for 2018 – an impressive distinction and a testament to the expert care we deliver for patients every day. The annual list showcases outstanding doctors in the area as nominated by fellow physicians.

Our doctors perform over 2,200 complex surgeries each year, including procedures for conditions so rare or complicated that doctors at other health care organizations will trust only us for their patients’ care.

Many doctors, one goal: Complete patient care

Outstanding subspecialty care

We offer an array of advanced programs under the Department of Neurological Surgery, including the following areas:

  • Brain tumors: Our Annette G. Strauss Center for Neuro-Oncology provides treatments for both benign and malignant brain and spinal cord tumors, and our researchers constantly explore new treatment options.
  • Cerebrovascular care: As part of the O’Donnell Brain Institute and Rogers Comprehensive Stroke Center, our program has been the major referral center for cerebrovascular disease for the last 40 years. Patients throughout Texas and the five-state area with the most complex cases are referred to us for care, including people with strokes and malformations of the brain’s blood vessels.
  • Neurocritical care: This specialty brings together neurologists, neurosurgeons, and critical care specialists to treat the most complex and life-threatening neurological conditions.
  • Neurotrauma: Patients receive immediate care after suffering severe injuries to the head, spine, or spinal cord.
  • Spine: Our team cares for patients with challenging spinal conditions, such as spinal tumors and fractures, spinal deformities, and degenerative diseases.
  • Stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, and epilepsy surgery: Our stereotactic and functional neurosurgery program sees more patients than any other program in Dallas, and our Epilepsy Center is the busiest in Texas for surgical procedures.
