I saw some long-time friends at the AORN Leadership meeting.... and made a new one (Melanie Perry) or two.My takeaways from the meeting?✔️OR nursing leadership recognizes change is needed.✔️Lots of burnout among staff.✔️Losing staff to the "Silver Tsunami" (Good Company Consulting thanks for the term!)✔️Enormous caseload (my "Surgical Tsunami")✔️✔️✔️✔️Increasingly burdened with administrative and training duties (of all the new staff)One leader told me: "I don't have 5 minutes to myself without some surgeon knocking on my door or 1000 emails"Good news?✅Lots of openness to new ways of looking at Leadership, AI, technology etc....All of which, hopefully, leads to nurses working at the top of their license.🤞Because the old way of thinking (hire more people, take on more work selflessly, just hire travelers, stay late, "we'll make it work")...Doesn't work anymore.Hank Balch Alex VanOeveren Francis Iula Maya Ber Lerner Rebecca Urban M.Ed #sterileprocessing #medicaldevices #aorn #aorn2024

🌟 Give Yourself Grace as a Nursing Leader 🌟In the demanding world of nursing leadership, it's essential to remember that perfection is not the goal—progress is. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth. As you navigate these, here are a few reminders to give yourself grace:1. Acknowledge Your Efforts: Recognize the hard work and dedication you pour into your role. Celebrate your successes, big and small.2. Learn from Mistakes: Mistakes are inevitable. Use them as stepping stones for learning and improvement, rather than sources of self-criticism.3. Prioritize Self-Care:Your well-being is crucial. Make time for rest, reflection, and activities that rejuvenate your spirit.4. Seek Support: Lean on your team and fellow leaders. Sharing experiences and advice can provide valuable perspectives and encouragement.5. Be Patient with Yourself: Growth takes time. Allow yourself the patience to develop and adapt at your own pace.Remember, you’re doing an incredible job. Keep moving forward, and don't forget to give yourself the grace you so freely offer others. 💖👩⚕️👨⚕️#NurseLeadership #SelfCare #Grace #HealthcareHeroes #ProgressNotPerfection #NursingLife #LeadershipJourney
