Setting a start point other than "current location" - Quote

Postby JoanneFPeaceful6
Trying to set the start point to an address other than "current location".
I have googled how to do this however, step 1, finding the menu icon has me stumped. It used to be in the bottom left of my waze screen but now there is the search magnifying glass icon. Not sure if any updates made the online instructions obsolete. Any ideas?
I have an iphone 5s ios 9.3.2
Waze app is up to date

This seems useless for my case. I am going to Puerto Rico and trying to plan a trip between two points on the island. But, since it immediately starts trying to route me to an address as soon as I key it in, and it's 1800+ miles away and you can't get there by car, it fails. I can't use this app to plan the drive between two points that are a far distance away. Big bummer.

With the trip planning options, the Start Point feature is nearly obsolete. Just search for and select your destination, tap the 'Later' button and then tap the 'From' option to change the start point. The only thing missing is a visible route, but you'll get that when you actually start navigating from that location.

The method I described still works. Search for the destination and tap the correct result, tap 'Go later' when the location info screen pops up, tap where it says 'From --- Current location' and search for your start point.

On Android:
Tap 'My Waze' at the bottom
Tap 'Plan a drive' (under your name)
Tap '+' (bottom right)
Set a destination
Now, at the top, set your starting point.
I guess iOS should work similar.

You can do it if you go to "Planned Drives".

4. Now, I'm back at the Search screen and although nothing indicates it, this search is where
you specify your Destination. From this point, you're back into familiar territory.
At this point, don't tap 'Go Now' or allow it to auto-tap after a few seconds, otherwise you'll lose the start point and it will reset to your current location. Instead tap 'Routes' ASAP then you'll see 3 alternative routes from the start point you set.
If there's another iPhone user out there who thinks I'm making this too hard and could show a simpler way, we would all welcome it. Question to Waze: was it supposed to be this difficult?
It's the same with the Android version. I agree it is poor UI/UX. It hasn't been improved at all in the almost 3 years since you posted.

have you tried tapping on the magnifying glass icon and then selecting 'Navigate to'? That should give you the option to enter a specific address. Hope that helps!

That doesn't help me if the start location is several hours away. I would be scrolling forever to get to the approximate location. I have long touched a location close to home, then I can tap the "i" bubble to get the 3 dots but it doesn't help me when the location is so far away. What happened to the waze symbol on the bottom left for the menu button? Do you still have it?

I search for the location, choose it, then It immediately starts calculating and starts the app as if this is my destination. There are no three dots on any screen. I wish I could see the dots because then I wouldn't have had to post this. I need an iphone user to reply to this or I should just get an android...
